Why it fits a portfolio
- The same work repeats across brands. Every consumer brand has a weekly recap, a close pack, inventory to watch and, often, a lender to report to. Built once, the pattern carries.
- The definitions do not. Each brand counts revenue, margin and returns its own way. Generic AI answers with textbook definitions; these models answer with the ones management and the board agreed.
- Reporting is the fund's view of the business. When it arrives faster and in consistent terms, board meetings spend their time on decisions instead of on reconciling numbers.
- Lean teams get capacity without headcount. The hours go back to the people who already know the business.
How a program runs
Audit one brand
A fixed-fee operations audit: the definitions written down, the hours mapped, the first workflow running.
Build and measure
Three to five workflows installed, with the hours before and after written down for the fund and management.
Repeat with the playbook
Each new brand starts from what worked, on its own definitions, at a lower cost and a shorter timeline.
Who does the work
I have been COO at three companies, one through an exit, and CEO at another. I have presented the numbers to investors, built the long-range plan and sat through the lender exams, and I built these workflows for my own team before offering them to anyone else. Brands between $10M and $100M in revenue are the fit. Here is what it looks like from the brand's finance team.

Questions
How does a portfolio program work?
One brand first, through an audit and a build sprint. What works becomes a playbook, so the next brand starts most of the way there and costs less. Each brand still gets its own definitions; no two businesses measure margin the same way.
Who is the client, the fund or the brand?
Either. Most often the brand signs and the fund sponsors the introduction. Everything built lives in the brand's own accounts.
What does the fund get?
Faster, consistent reporting from the brand, in the definitions the fund agreed with management, and a team with hours back to spend on the plan instead of the spreadsheets.
How is this different from an IT or data project?
It is run by an operator, not a systems integrator. It uses the tools the brand already has, it is fixed fee, and the first workflow is running within three weeks.
